Sommelier Jon Melone will take you on an in-depth study of the major grape varieties, bringing forth the characteristics and personality traits of the most prominent grape varieties from around the world. The aroma of wine accounts for more than 95% of what one experiences in drinking wine, so we will smell our way through various wine aromas. We then explore the major wine regions of the world, beginning with a tour of Europe, followed by the major wine regions of the new world. Each class session will conclude with a wine tasting of three different wines, and we will work at trying to identify various varieties based on the characteristics and personality traits of the wines in front of us through blind tastings. Students must be 21 years of age or older to enroll and participate. The Basic Wine Appreciation course is a pre-requisite to this course. Instructor: Jon Melone Fee: $35 plus $40 supply fee paid to instructor
