Theatre Camp: June 25 - 29, 2018
Ages: 10 - 18
Hey, kids, want to go to the one summer camp where you'll learn how to use stage makeup to give yourself (or somebody else) bruises, gashes, and old man wrinkles? Do you want to learn how to swing a sword, take a fake punch, and fall without getting hurt? What about learning how to act and take stage directions? All of this and more is available in the week-long adventure that is CSI Theatre Camp! Theatre Camp is for youth ages 10-18 of all skill and experience levels who are interested in learning more about what goes into a play, on stage and behind the scenes, in a hands-on environment. We would love to have you join us if you have been in theatre for years or just want to learn what it's all about and have a little bit of fun. The camp will consist of age-appropriate breakaway classes such as makeup, set design, stage lighting, stage combat, acting, audition prep, puppets, improv, mime, costuming, musical theatre and more! On the last day of camp, students will demonstrate their work by putting on a showcase for friends and family

This three-day afternoon camp, a companion to the regular CSI Theatre Camp, is designed to introduce younger students (ages 6 through 9) to the world of theatre.  No experience required! Junior campers will get a behind the scenes tour of the CSI Fine Arts Center and learn the basics of what goes into a play -who does what, stage direction, how to express your emotions through performing, face painting, stage voice and movement, fun with costumes, as well as preparing a short performance for moms and dads

CSI Summer Band Experience: June 25 - June 29, 2018

Do you love music? Whether you are a hobbyist, a middle or high school student, or have just always wanted to learn to play, the CSI Summer Band Experience is the perfect opportunity for you!  In this week-long summer camp, jazz and classical music tracks are available.  Students will get the chance to have direct contact with renowned performance faculty six hours each day, learning all about their instrument during daily sectionals, working with their peers in small chamber groups and full band settings, learning about the building blocks of music, improvising in music theory, and experiencing the greatest musical recordings and historical performances of all time in the listening lab.

High School Art Intensive

The CSI High School Art Intensive is a weeklong introduction to the 2D arts offered at CSI.  This Camp is designed for students entering grades 9-12 who are interested in art and in what CSI has to offer. Over the course of a week, students will be introduced to a sampling of drawing, painting, design, and printmaking medias that will then be complied into a handmade book. If you are looking for a creative outlet over the summer, this Intensive is for you!  Limited to 12 students.

Camp Director Angela Batchelor holds a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts From Boise State University. She taught for Portland Community College before coming to CSI to teach in the Art Department where she instructs Art History, Painting, Drawing and Printmaking. Angela also maintains an active studio practice focusing on Book Arts and Printmaking

Music Fest, a music day camp for students age 12 to 18, is an opportunity for students to participate in many areas of music and interact with professional faculty of music educators from all over the state. Students choose a major - strings, vocal, handbells, musical theater, percussion, organ, or piano - and spend significant time each day in classes related to their major. All students participate in the camp choir and have three elective periods. There are a wide variety of elective classes to choose from. On the last evening of the camp, all students perform in the Music Fest concert. Note: We have moved the band students into the CSI Jazz Camp, where they will get specialized instruction on brass instruments in both jazz and notated music

BEGINNER EV3 ROBOTICS CAMP

Design, build, and program a LEGO EV3 robot that will crush the competition in a fun, end-of-camp contest. This Beginner EV3 Robotics camp is open to all boys and girls interested in applying science, technology, engineering, and math while learning real-world problem solving skills and gracious professionalism from the valley's own award-winning 5026 Tesla Coils FTC Robotics Team. Space is limited to the first 32 registrations.

 

ADVANCED EV3 ROBOTICS CAMP
August 8 - 10, 2018

In CSI Advanced Lego Robotics Camp, students will use LEGO MINDSTORM EV3 robotics kits to design and build programmable robots using motors, sensors, gears, wheels, axles, and other technical components.  They will learn how to understand and interpret two-dimensional drawings to create three-dimensional models and gain practical, hands-on experience using mathematical concepts such as estimating and measuring distance, time, and speed.  This class is designed for students who’ve taken the basic Lego Robotics Camp or have experience and who want to take their learning to the next level.

CSI Lego Robotics Camp
In Little Robotitions Robotics Camp, younger students will learn new skills in science, engineering, technology, and coding using the LEGO WeDo 2.0 robotics kits and software. In this camp, students learn the important 21st century skill of programming the intuitive way - by bringing their adorable creations to life. What parents love and the students don't realize is they are also sharpening computational thinking skills like logical reasoning, pattern recognition, and modeling simulations. In Little Robotitions Robotics Camp, children are empowered to ask the right questions, define problems, and design their own solutions by putting scientific discovery in their own hands. They'll also learn gracious professionalism from the valley's own award-winning 5026 Tesla Coils FTC Robotics Team. Class sizes are limited to 10 kids per session.

Calling all Junior Chef! Come experience a culinary adventure in appetizers and tapas. These are small snack items that are popular for sharing and trying different cuisines. In this fun five-day class, young chefs will practice essential kitchen skills and master some fundamentals of cooking and kitchen safety. Learn to make appetizers like the pros as we master techniques for phyllo tarts, stuffed mushrooms, bruschetta, caprese skewers, mini enchilada tarts, baby hasselback potatoes, cornmeal popovers, and more. This series will include kitchen safety, proper food handling, food preparation, etiquette manners, table setting, presentation and of course math and fun. Come join our chefs in a safe environment that encourages discovery and creativity.

Our Kitchen Academy is a perfect place for students to develop, build upon, and sharpen their culinary skills as they progress through the week. Planned around a unique theme to immerse young chefs in a world of culinary creativity and discovery. This series will include kitchen safety, proper food handling, food preparation, etiquette manners, table setting, presentation and of course math and fun.  We will be preparing shepherd’s pie, baked ziti, chicken pot pie, macaroni and cheese, tuna melt, peach cobbler, Kentucky hot brown, and of course Mississippi mud pie. SPORTS PERFORMANCE TRAINING FOR YOUNG ATHLETES

Kids Plyometrics and Agility Training

Don't lose your edge over the summer by developing the skills and stamina to become a better athlete! This course will focus on speed, quickness, agility, and jumping to help young athletes enhance their athleticism and develop the skills necessary for safe and effective sport participation. Travis Bunker will help you become stronger and quicker in your sport of choice. Travis has a master's degree in Sports Conditioning and is the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator for the CSI athletic teams. He will push your son or daughter to reach their potential and improve the right way! This class is for students of all experience levels and can be adapted to the individual needs of the students. INTRO TO RESISTANCE & STRENGTH TRAINING FOR YOUNG ATHLETES

Introduction to Strength Training for Young Athletes

This course will introduce young athletes to safe exercises in the weight room taught by NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist Travis Bunker. Young athletes will learn many different total body exercises to help strengthen and prevent injuries. The focus is not on "how much weight" or "maxing out" but how to do the exercises safely and with the correct form to enhance performance. This can be very beneficial to athletes going into or currently participating in high school strength or sports programs to prepare them for weight classes or continue what progress has been made during the school year. Body weight exercises, resistance bands, and light weights will be utilized to help your son or daughter build confidence in their abilities. Come get stronger!

Camp Masterpiece is the College of Southern Idaho's Summer Art Camp.  In Camp Masterpiece, young artists will discover a world of inspiration and creativity through open-ended, age-appropriate art lessons in drawing, painting, and sculpture.  We will explore different media working on these projects as students learn various art techniques.  Better yet, in this camp, visual and performing arts are combined with play, games and a snack, and the week will culminate in an art show and a performance.  A Camp Masterpiece T-shirt is included.  Camp Masterpiece features a faculty of artists and art teachers from the Magic Valley.

Cost: $129

Camp Director Karen Fothergill holds a Master’s Degree in Creative Arts in Learning and has taught art at Filer, Twin Falls, and Gooding High Schools. She has worked extensively teaching the youth of the Magic Valley through Community Ed, Kid’s Art in the Park, and at the Twin Falls Creative Arts Center.  Karen has been honored with the Governor’s Award in Art Education, an Idaho state art teacher of the year, and the Twin Falls Mayor’s Awards in Arts Education.

Camp Masterpiece Instructor Stacie Rambo is a longtime resident of Jerome. She is a wife, mother of four, and a grandmother of two She has worked for the Jerome School District for 18 years, and has been a part of various after school programs and camps. Stacie has instructed many classes for young people through CSI's Community Educators program over the past 10 years. She enjoys sharing art and nature with children and finding ways to included art and creativity in education.
